DESIGN DESIGN DESIGN
Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that's why it is so complicated

DESIGN ABOUNDS
A graphic designer is a machine that turns coffee into beautiful, functional imagery.
LISA MANSON

We are visual creatures.

Seeing is believing, design is inherent in everything.

So, combining graphical representations with a sense of order is a captivating pursuit.

If I sense some inertia under the surface of a static visual creation, I'll try and let it out by animating it. Here are some key pieces of recent work.

A careful use of movement on a site or digital application can support the sense of connection a user feels. Not just by simply attracting attention, but by invoking life, movement - even progress.

Development of the ICAT Actor Base logo - designed with a militaristic, target hitting style, as the client wanted to capture the essence of his goal-focussed actor training business.
Logos are everywhere. The best ones have character and convey a set of messages with power and precision. The worst ones confuse and fail to inspire a sense of anything at all.

The poster (a word derived from affixing ‘a paper notice, advertisement, etc. to a post’) has always been a format I’ve aspired to do justice to. It’s quite a sharp challenge - catch the eye, do something fresh, all the while boiling down the key information to the essentials, no more no less. The whole art and science of design, then… distilled within a rectangle.
Unexpected movement: we’re a few years off being able to make paste-up posters move like this, but disrupting reality can help grab attention and get a message across
An honour to be asked by local artist Jamie B Edwards to turn one of his famous football ground paintings into a poster. Jamie was in turn commissioned by US Major League Soccer (ahem - football!) team LA Galaxy to capture their stadium, and this piece went on to be displayed around LA and across California.

Slides designed for an ICAT Online School of Acting online course
A great presentation involves preparation, engagment and confidence. In previous lives, this designer gained lots of experience delivering presentations to a wide range of audiences. This developed an understanding of what a good visual aid not only looks like but how it should function as a key part of the storytelling exercise.

Reports are just boring summaries that nobody really reads very carefully, if at all.
Another take - a well constructed and vibrant document can be a powerful tool to inform and influence.
